Nehemiah 3:8 and they fortified Jerusalem unto the broad wall.

Spurgeon

Cities that were well fortified had broad walls such as Jerusalem. In Her glory. The new Jerusalem  must in like manner be surrounded and preserved with a broad wall of nonconformity to the world. And not adopt the world’s customs. There is a movement these days to break down the Holy barrier. They seek to blend  the Church and the world together.  Church leaders are no longer strict and Puritanical, questionable literature has filtered into the Church for all to read. Frivolous pastimes are currently indulged, and a general laxity threatens to deprive the Lords chosen people  called out to assemble in a particular place, a place of refuge and like minded saints. When we break down the Holy walls that which separates us from a sinful world. It will be an ill day for the Church and the world when the proposed amalgamation shall be complete, and the sons of God and the daughters of the world will be as one. Then shall we have ushered in another wrath, beware reader, be on guard, guard your heart and the word of God, and maintain a Broad wall. Remember friendship with the world is enmity with God. The broad wall wasn’t to keep the inhabitants from getting out it was to keep the world from getting in. The broad wall gave safety to its inhabitants, and allowed them a wide view of the surrounding country. We are ambassadors for Christ, and the church I our embassy , well protected and fortified.  We are to separate from the world and denying all ungodliness and fleshly lusts.  But we are not in prison, nor restricted by the wide walls, we walk in liberty, because we keep his precepts. Come walk with God in the way of holy prayer and meditation on the word of God.  By God grace you are pilgrims in a strange land we are to share the good news as good ambassadors and maintain our holy well.
