Ephesians 1:8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight

Greg smiling

Wherein he hath abounded toward us; the word Abounded or lavished ( perisseuō) to exceed a fixed number of measure, to be left over and above a certain number or measure;  That is, in the grace which is so abundantly displayed in redemption and forgiveness of sin, through the blood of Christ. We should not ask why God would chose some and not others what we should be asking why did He chose anyone?  No one is worthy, we are gone astray, none of us seeks after the God of the Bible. We are born in sin and are dead spiritually in trespasses. Ephesians 2: 1,2  . And you were dead in the trespasses and sins following the course of this dark world following Satan that now works in all the sons of disobedience. So here we are spiritually dead not wanting nor able to respond to spiritual things and without all hope.

The Gospel; which may be called all wisdom and prudence, because it is the wisdom of God; it is the product of his wisdom, and also displays it.  The doctrines it contains are full of wisdom, and are the means of communicating it to men, and of making them wise unto salvation; and it may be so called, the excellency and perfection of it, as greatly transcending all human wisdom, man would have devised some system of works. Each of us who have been lavished with all wisdom and insight has our own way of showing thanks a praise to such a glorious savior. The Godly wisdom and insight is foolishness to the world, we are a foul-smelling order to them. This is what makes it all the more precious to those who are the called. To have wisdom and insight into the things of God is an unspeakable blessing.  This is a Family message only for those who have been lavished upon with all Godly wisdom and insight.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! (Psalms 33:12)
