Ephesians 2:1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins

Here by the inspiration of God Paul paints the sad description of mankind. Yet he is talking to those who have been risen from the dead in a supernatural way. “You were  “past tense”  but what does He mean dead?  ( nekros )  one that has breathed his last, lifeless, deceased, departed, one whose soul is in heaven or hell, spiritually dead,  destitute of a life that recognizes and is devoted to God, because given up to trespasses and sins, So if we are talking in the physical sense, it is a person who has breathed their last. They are deader than a doornail dead. All the bodily functions have shut down, they can no longer respond to stimuli. They are not on life support, they are not brain dead, they are dead, dead. And if we look on the spiritual side we are just as dead spiritually as we are physically. I don’t know how man ever came to the conclusion that we are dead but can still desire or respond to spiritual stimuli such as hearing the gospel and to seek the God of the Bible and receive His gift. So mankind is in a pickle, with no hope. Our flesh is alive and healthy, we are full of life, and respond to stimuli very well. But the bible is clear that in the flesh is no good thing. I have never seen a dead man sit up in a casket and repent. This is a real problem, I can’t wait to see how God is going to figure this out. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
