Ephesians 2:11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands–
This, with what follows in the next verse, the apostle reminds the converted Ephesians, in order to show the grace of God in their conversion; and to humble them in a view of their former state and condition; and to teach them that they could never be saved by any works of own. It would be profitable for all of us to remember our former state. Not to dwell on the failures of our past, but the hopeless condition we were in and the love that God showed us in that while we were sinner and enemies of God, He show mercy on us and quickened us together with Christ. This should be a reminder of the way we should treat those who persecute and treat us unjustly. This also takes in the fact they were called uncircumcision by they who is called circumcision, in the flesh made by hands; that is, they were by way of reproach and contempt for even dogs are not circumcised. So the Jews called them uncircumcised dogs; and they were more abominable to the Jews than dogs, and hated by them. So they had been saved from the Flesh, and not only that through Christ the wall between Jews and Gentile has been broken down. There is now neither Jew or Gentile, male or female, we are all one in Christ.
Paul take note, and puts emphasis on circumcision, that is by the hands of men. If there is one issue that Paul will not give any ground on, it salvation by grace and grace alone. He will not tolerate man’s finger prints on the redemption of a lost soul. But man is stubborn and through taking scripture out of context still tries to have a part in their salvation. Why is Paul so dogmatic on this issue? All mankind is born into sin and alienated from a Holy God. Adam our federal head plunged all mankind into sin. In sin did our mother conceive us. We were not born sinless and then learn to sin. And being in sin, we are alive in the flesh and soul, but our spirits are dead. When God told Adam if He eats of the tree in the midst of the garden you shall surely die. Well Adam disobeyed God yet he did not die in the flesh, that is clear from scripture. Did God lie? No Adam died spiritually. and from then on every person born is born spiritually dead. John 4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” There is no man that can quicken a souls spirit, only the supernatural power of a sovereign God can quicken the spirit in man. So lets us be as dogmatic as Paul and not give an inch when it comes to salvation by Grace and Grace alone, for by Grace are you saved and not of any works, lest should and He will boast.
John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
John 6:64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.)
