A.L.S. Update “If you are Reading this, I have become physically unable”.
This is my last post, I can no longer function due to my disease. I was conceived in sin, and grew up liking it, after all it was my very nature, to love the darkness, but little did I know, that a Sovereign God, in the fullness of time, drew me to Jesus, the Holy Spirit quickened me to spiritual life when He open my eyes and heart. I couldn’t run fast enough to the arms of my Savior.
When you pass the prime of life and inter the evening and feel you may be in the way of judgment this may be the case, and, if so, be it unto me to consider the reason of such a visitation. And bear the rod and Him that hath appointed it. I am not the only one who is chastened in the night season; let me cheerfully submit to the affliction, and carefully endeavor to be profited thereby. If the Lord hand is upon you, this is cause to rejoice. But the hand of the Lord may also be felt in another manner, strengthening the soul and lifting the spirit upward towards eternal things. At this time of your life you might sail to heights unknown. Could be God just has to reset our focus. O that I may in this sense feel the Lord dealing with me! A sense of the divine presence and indwelling bears the soul towards heaven as upon the wings of eagles. At such times we are full to the brim with spiritual joy, and forget the cares and sorrows of earth; the invisible is near, and the visible loses its power over us; servant-body waits at the foot of the hill, and the master-spirit worships upon the summit in the presence of the Lord. O that a hallowed season of divine communion may be shelter to me this evening! (Spurgeon)
The Lord knows that I need it very greatly. My graces languish, my corruptions rage, my faith is weak, my devotion is cold; all these are reasons why His healing hand should be laid upon me. His hand can cool the heat of my burning brow, and stay the tumult of my palpitating heart. That glorious right hand which molded the world can new-create my mind; the unwearied hand which bears the earth’s huge pillars up can sustain my spirit; the loving hand which incloses all the saints can cherish me; and the mighty hand which break in pieces the enemy can subdue my sins. At this time of your life you feel as if you’re being touched in a personal way, you are. I got news for you Why should I not feel that hand of God is touching me this evening?
Come, my soul, address your God with the potent plea, that Jesus hands were pierced for my redemption, and I shall surely feel that same hand upon me which once touched Daniel and set him upon his knees that he might see visions of God. Seniors this can be a most special time, a time of more intimacy and acknowledging God in all our ways. Do not envy the young, they know not the evening kiss of God. I know from experience that the gentle hand of the God who holds the universe together, holds me. My Sunday school class is older than dirt, and age isn’t counted in years, but in Grace, we have a long prayer list, but I’ve never seen a happier bunch of people in my Christian life. It should be named the “God is Faithful Class” because every face in the class reflects it. This is dedicated to all who are in the evening of their life, there is no age limit, you just know when you are there. All is well with my Soul. It is with a heavy heart that I say good-bye and God Bless, and keep the faith and my God be Glorified.
Gregory Lane
I’ll be praying…May the good Lord bless and keep you in perfect peace.
Oh, dear brother in Christ. I am so sad to hear your illness will take you away from your blog ministry. You have touched my heart and soul in so many ways. Always, always leaving me wanting for more of your wisdom and the knowledge of His grace.. I pray His healing, hand will come upon you and bring you comfort. My prayers for NIta and your family will cry out to the Lord as they too will need His strength and the touch of His hand.. I hope somehow we can keep in touch as I know the heaviness on my heart will not go away. But if not, know I will be lifting you up to the Lord, in faith asking for a miracle, trusting Him, believing Him for “by His stripes we are healed” and knowing His will shall be done. I don’t want to say goodbye, the tears won’t let me, so I’m going to end by saying you will be one of the first people I will want to meet when I get to heaven. So, if you are there before me listen for my name and meet me at the door so we can truly have our “heavenly hug” I love you dear friend may God’s peace, mercy and abundant grace fill your heart and mind. It was with great sadness that I read this post from Greg Lane. I have been following his blog for a little over a year. His faithfulness has always been a great encouragement to me. Although I have never met him, he has become a very dear brother in Christ to me. This is his last post and all the glory has once again been placed at the feet of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He has been and remains a shining example to me of what it means to follow Christ with all of your heart, mind, soul, and broken body. May God’s blessing and peace be upon you Gregory Lane. Thank you for allowing the love of your Savior to bless my soul.
Your posts have blessed me in more ways than I can tell you – As you have shared grace my soul has been refreshed by your words – My prays will be with you – In Christ Darrell
Love you dad and I thank you for your faithfulness!
I am sad to hear that this is your last post dear brother. I have enjoyed following your blog. I pray that God’s will be done in and through you that he might be glorified. Blessings to you in Jesus’ name.
Through tears and a breaking heart I have read your last post. I know you have placed all that you are and the time you have in God’s hands. I have laughed, learned, been encouraged and grown from your ministry even though we are so many miles apart. Still today, the input you had in my life 30 years ago affects my study and ministry. You are at the top of my list of saints who helped build a strong foundation for my faith! I pray for you and Nita every day. Selfishly I ask God to restore you, but with a heavy heart I submit to our sovereign God’s perfect will for you. I love you!!!!
Praying for you Gregory. What a testimony! Blessings
This is heart breaking.
Even though we’ve never met in person, Greg, you’re my brother in Christ, and you’ve been such an encouragement to me since I started reading your blogs. I’ll see you in heaven, dear brother!
It is people like that lifts my spirits, God Bless you my sister.
Your words won’t be forgotten, for they pointed us to the WORD, the Everlasting One, our Maker, Our Kings of Kings and Lord of Lords. I praise Him for still raising His Saints, for still working in the hearts of His people, for still pointing a lost and dying world to Him … and I praise Him for people like you, whom He chose and through whom He works. Thank you for your faithful obedience. You are in my prayers.
So sorry to hear that this is your last post. You have been such an example for everyone and have done on earth what most angels do after death. God bless you in your evening of life. Just know that I cherish Jen’s friendship very much and I will do what I can for her as her loss will be devastating. You are one of a kind and you will make a wonderful angel as you have been one in the last 18 months for a lot of people. May God keep you feeling the peace you feel. You will not be forgotten! Hugs and prayers to you my friend!!! June Blackburn
Many prayers your way
Jerry and I pray that the Great Comforter will comfort you and Nita and your family as you go through this difficult time.
Dear brother and cherished friend, I am sorry this is your last post. Your words, though, will not be forgotten since they have grounded in the Word of God. You are a shining example of God’s grace. You have encouraged me through your presence at Grace, your prayers, and the friendship that I am thankful the Lord established. God has given you a great understanding of His Word and a sensitive heart to know His Word. Remember “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand, when I awake, I am still with You.”- Psalm 139:17-18

My heart is heavy tonight as I read your post. I knew that this time would eventually come, but I was not prepared. I am so blessed to have you and Nita as a part of my life so many years ago, and now again long distance. I think of you both often – my prayers will change somewhat. I do pray that the God of all comfort will be so close to you, Nita and the kids, and give you all grace and peace. I love you all so much!
It is hard to respond to a post like this. I have enjoyed your blog so much, Greg. I have learned so much from it and particularly from this last post. I couldn’t say what I’m feeling better than Deborah Ann has above. Please know that you have been in my prayers for over a month now and I don’t plan on stopping.
Good-bye and God Bless, and keep the faith and my God be Glorified.
I also look forward to meeting you one day in heaven.
May God richly bless you and your family…
Hi. What a testimony your life has been. My heart hurts to hear these words. I wish there was something I could say and something I could do…the only thing I have are my hands and knees which can kneel in prayer for you asking for support and uplifting because I know your heart bears a tremendous loss. I do not do good-byes or farewells–just hugs– *HUG* *HUG* 🙂 . I am wishing you great blessings even through this terrible time. – Amy 🙂
Wow what a testimony
